Do I need an OpenAI API key?
Yes. To use AI features, add your own OpenAI API key in Settings. Without a key, Kalycs works with local (non-AI) search and organization.
Which AI models are supported?
OpenAI GPT models only. Other providers are not supported at this time.
Can I use Kalycs completely offline?
Yes. Local search , organization, and file management work offline. AI features require internet access to call OpenAI.
Does Kalycs upload my files?
No. Your files stay on your device. When you use AI features, only the minimum relevant excerpts are sent to OpenAI via your key to generate answers.
How are my API keys stored?
Keys are stored in your system keychain and are never sent to Kalycs servers.
What are the system requirements?
Only macOS is supported. Modern hardware recommended; large libraries index faster on SSDs.
